Fresh Air Books publishes books that inspire readers to explore Christian faith in a fresh, experiential way. Our books are for all people who want to know God, whether they call themselves “Christian” or not.
We market our books primarily through booksellers such as Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Amazon, who help us reach as wide an audience as possible.
Rather than telling readers what to do, our books show the way, mostly through stories of people who live out authentic, compassionate faith in the real world. We believe that faith influences everything we do, and therefore, we consider manuscripts that address most areas of life. Currently, we do not publish fiction or poetry, nor do we publish scholarly or academic works.
We encourage authors to write about God and people in an inclusive manner and to use a variety of metaphors describing God.
Who Reads Fresh Air Books
Our books are for people who long for deeper meaning in their lives, but who may feel unheard, misunderstood, or even excluded by the church. We also publish for Christians who long to go deeper and find a fresh way to connect with God, but who are turned off by what one writer calls the “unapologetic dorkiness” of the church. This imprint serves Protestants, Roman Catholics, and Orthodox Christians, as well as spiritual seekers and adherents of many other faiths.
Sending Material to Fresh Air Books
After you have determined that your material matches the mission of Fresh Air Books, you may submit a book proposal to our editors. (We prefer to receive proposals rather than complete manuscripts.) The process takes time, normally up to twelve weeks, so we can’t promise you a quick response.
When sending us a book proposal, please include the following:
1. a proposed title
2. a statement of your purpose for writing the book
3. a table of contents with annotations describing the content of each chapter
4. one complete sample chapter
5. a statement indicating why you are the person to write this book
6. your ideas regarding market and marketing strategies for the book: Who is the audience? How can you help promote this book? What makes your book unique?
Note: Proposals should be typewritten, double-spaced, and one-sided. No submissions will be accepted via e-mail.
Please send all submissions to:
